FSG Tool and Die Exhibiting Press Tooling at METPACK 2023

FSG Tool and Die is exhibiting their precision press tooling solutions at the METPACK 2023 exhibition (Essen, Germany, 2-6 May, 2023) for the first time.

In hall 1 on stand 1E25, the UK-based engineering company is presenting the latest high-specification tool systems for aluminium can and can-end manufacturing, and aluminium foil containers.

FSG Tool and Die is a world leading designer, manufacturer and installer of press tools; tool systems for aluminium can and can-end manufacturing; thermoforming tooling; plastic injection moulds; and aluminium foil container press moulding tooling.  The tooling is used in a diverse range of applications in industries including packaging, consumer products, and automotive.  The FSG manufacturing and design headquarters are located in Llantrisant, South Wales, United Kingdom.

METPACK is reportedly the world’s leading trade fair for metal packaging.  The international exhibition is staged every three years at Messe Essen in Germany.

The focus for FSG at this year’s METPACK is bespoke new tooling and the rebuild and servicing of existing tooling for a wide range of presses.  For over 40 years, FSG has developed their tooling to meet increasingly challenging applications with reduced material thicknesses and ever-tightening tolerances.  This includes developing cupper tools for canning and battery containers; easy-open end systems; DRD can systems; and end lines.  The FSG tools are used on presses built by leading manufacturers including Schuler, Minster, Heilbronn, Metal Box 314 and Automator MB20.

With the global drive towards transport electrification in the automotive sector, FSG’s product range has evolved and the company is a leading innovator in the development of tools for steel battery housings.

In the food and beverage packing sector, FSG’s engineering team work closely with container and can manufacturers to design and build cupper tools for steel and aluminium pressings.  This includes assessing the materials and material coatings to support reliable system performance and reduce blow-off pressures.

Once built and tested at FSG’s UK manufacturing facility, the company’s commissioning and service-support team assist on the installation and set-up of the tooling at site.  This global customer support includes designing preventative maintenance programmes with customers and a spares provision plan.

To maximise the life of a tool, FSG provide a major rebuild service on a three-year cycle.  This covers all wearable items and realignment and restores the tooling to the original condition and performance.  During any refurbishment, FSG’s engineering team assess the incorporation of any new innovations to improve service and reliability.

“Exhibiting at METPAK reflects our growth as a business and our global reputation,” explained Paul Byard, FSG’s Managing Director.  “The exhibition provides us with the platform to meet and talk to metal container manufacturers.  With feedback from our existing and new prospective clients, we can continue to evolve our tooling.”
