Deltalab Ups the Ante With Two New ULMA Packaging FM 300s

Barcelona-based behemoths in the design and manufacture of laboratory products, Deltalab, has seen a huge – if unsurprising – increase in 2020 in the demand for its biological sample collection and transport products, which are used during Covid PCR tests. With the aim of being at the forefront of plastic injection products for the healthcare and pharmaceutical sector, the Catalan company has added two new swab packaging lines, choosing ULMA Packaging’s state-of-the-art FM 300 flow pack packaging technology.

Deltalab’s ViCUM® product consists of a new range of swabs and transport and enrichment media, adapted to the current needs of healthcare professionals. And due to the high demand for PCR tests, Deltalab has seen the need for the new ULMA machines, which produce packages with three fully sealed pockets, creating pillow pack packages with automatic loading of the transport tubes.

The new additions allow Deltalab to increase its production rate, which is currently 500,000 PCR tests per week, by another 4000 packages per hour on each line.

Deltalab chose to invest in these new flow pack lines since they offer a versatile and flexible format, which can cater to the current PCR swab test packaging needs, designed for the market of products used to collect samples to analyse and detect viruses, while allowing the line to be adapted to alternative applications in the future.
