Pentawards 2024 launches subcategory Design With Purpose

The Pentawards annual competition, dedicated to recognising global packaging design excellence, has announced Design With Purpose as a permanent subcategory to the Brand Identity & Connected Packaging category.

This brand new Pentawards award celebrates packaging design that adds extra value to the needs of its target audience, or to those involved in creation of the product. 

Last year, Design With Purpose was identified as a key trend for packaging design and therefore introduced as a Special Award which gives focused recognition to different areas each year. 

The 2023 Design with Purpose winner was drawrope, a Japan-based agency, with BOSAI GIFT, created for the Japanese earthquake prone community. Designed to be given as a gift and displayed rather than hidden away in the cupboard, drawrope’s concept holds supplies like water, food and batteries, whilst also doubling up as a lantern to help keep families feeling safe during a natural catastrophe.

The 2023 Pentawards Festival theme was also announced as Design with Purpose which resonated across the whole industry, resulting in the decision for it to be introduced as permanent subcategory for 2024.

Head of Pentawards, Adam Ryan said: “Pentawards has always been about celebrating the best in packaging design on a global scale across different sectors and industries. After the success of last year’s special award and as the much celebrated theme of the 2023 Pentawards Festival, it became clear that Design with Purpose should be an area that we recognise within our awards. We’re really looking forward to seeing the innovative entries in this new category for 2024!”

For your chance to make your mark in 2024, make sure you enter this year’s competition , open until 22 March. The first round results will be announced at the end of May and final results announced at the Pentawards Gala in October 2024.
